The oxyfuel system is an auxiliary technique to welding, used to date in countless industrial applications. Oxyfuel is used to prepare the edges of the parts to be welded and to cut plates (thin metal sheets between 1 and 12 millimeters), pipes, carbon steel bars and other ferrous elements in repairs, being very versatile to handle different materials.<\/p>\n

These systems can easily cut ferrous materials over 200 mm (8 inches) and is one of the preferred tools for manual cutting of thick steel (over 38 millimeters).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Parts of the oxyfuel system <\/strong><\/h4>\n

\u2022 Two cylinders<\/strong>: One green-colored oxygen and one red-colored acetylene. The use of these two highly flammable, high-pressure gases requires specific safety standards for maintenance, transport and storage.
\n\u2022 Pressure reducers:<\/strong> These reduce the pressure in the tanks from 150 atmospheres to pressures between 0.1 and 10 atmospheres.
\n\u2022 Cutting torch:<\/strong> It is the element of the installation that performs the gas mixing.
\n\u2022 Non-recoil valves<\/strong>: These are safety devices installed in the pipelines that only allow the gas to pass in one direction, preventing the flame from going backwards.
\n\u2022 Hoses<\/strong>: They conduct the gases from the tanks to the torch, these can be rigid or flexible.<\/p>\n

<\/h4>\n

Safety rules during welding<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\u2022 Use all necessary personal protective equipment.
\n\u2022 Always wear welding goggles to protect yourself from sparks and light rays.
\n\u2022 Wear gloves and avoid getting spatter on your wrists.
\n\u2022 Be aware of explosion hazards when welding or cutting sheet metal containers (drums) or similar items that have contained combustible liquids.
\n\u2022 If a strong reaction (popping) or flashback (hissing) occurs at the torch, close the cylinder valves immediately.<\/p>\n

The most common cause of flashback is insufficient flow of acetylene gas, in which case the acetylene flow must be increased by means of the torch valve. Another cause is that the nozzle may be clogged with slag or overheated, in this case the nozzle should be cleaned with the cleaning needle or allowed to cool.<\/p>\n

<\/h4>\n

Oxyfuel hose<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The twin hose is used for the oxyfuel process, having one of the hoses with a green cover for the oxygen and the other with a red cover for the acetylene. This hose is recommended for use in oxygen-acetylene based cutting and welding systems, where double lines are required to facilitate the handling of the hoses and reduce the risk of an accident.
